EXT. SINCAID HOME - DAY
Pike locks his bike's engine and walks up to the house. Kaia
is waiting for him on the stairs.
KAIA
Hey, babe.
PIKE
I look okay?
He's wearing faded khakis, a white t-shirt, and a plaid over
shirt. It's dressy...for him.
KAIA
You look fine, don't worry.
He takes a deep breath, more nervous than he's showing.
INT. DINING ROOM - SINCAID HOME - MOMENTS LATER
The round table is actually set with plates and silverware
this time.
Kaia and Pike enter the room and all heads turn to them,
including a new face seated next to Trevor we didn't see at
the previous feeding.
KAIA
Everyone, this is Oliver Pike.
(beat)
My boyfriend.
Crickets chirping. Pike smiles weakly and waves.
PIKE
Evening.
A beat. Everyone's staring holes through Pike.
PIKE
(to Kaia)
Bathroom?
KAIA
Down the hall on your left.
He can't get out of there fast enough. We follow him out and
HOLD on one of Kaia's brothers, watching him leave. His eyes
have glazed over to black and he GROWLS.
BLACK OUT.
END OF ACT ONE
ACT TWO
FADE IN.
Dinner this time around is steak. Pike's not on the menu, but
he might as well be with the way Kaia's family is sizing him
up.
His steak is also the only one on the table that seems to
have been cooked for more than two minutes.
PIKE
(not looking up)
The steak is excellent, Mrs.
Sincaid.
CLAIRE
Thank you, Oliver.
She looks at Kaia pointedly.
CLAIRE
Kaia didn't give me much notice on
the change in dinner plans, so I
did my best.
TREVOR
So, how long have you been seeing
my daughter?
Kaia looks at Pike and the table BUMPS. Pike's head snaps up.
PIKE
Oh, ummm...thirteen months.
KAIA
(whispering)
Fourteen.
PIKE
Fourteen months.
Trevor, who is done with his steak, leans back in his chair
and crosses his hands. Classic dad mode.
TREVOR
Were you aware that Kaia had not
told us about your relationship?
Pike takes a big gulp.
KAIA
(warning)
Dad.
Pike puts his silverware down and wipes his mouth. Apparently
the steak provided some courage.
PIKE
With all due respect, sir, Kaia's
twenty six years old. I think she's
old enough to not need her parents'
approval. This isn't a kid going on
a field trip.
There's those crickets again. Everyone's waiting on Trevor's
response. Trevor's expression darkens, but he speaks as
evenly as possible.
TREVOR
Fair point.
He takes a sip of his water.
TREVOR
So what do you do?
PIKE
I own an apartment building that I
lease out to less fortunate
families.
TREVOR
Non profit?
PIKE
No. I mean, they pay me what they
can, but I'm not hurting for money.
I inherited a nice chunk of change.
CLAIRE
Well, that's quite charitable.
COLBY
Do you and my sister kiss?
Kaia gags on a piece of steak she was swallowing.
CLAIRE
(sharp)
Colby!
Colby slumps down in his chair. Kaia makes like she's going
to choke the kid, but Pike holds his hand up.
PIKE
Not that often. Normally she comes
over and we play my XBox.
Every male at the table except Trevor perks up.
NICK
How good are you at Halo?
PIKE
Undefeated in my building in
tournament play.
(wry grin)
You challenging me?
NICK
(to Claire)
Mom, can we?
Claire nods. All the guys hop up from the table. Pike leans
in to give Kaia a kiss, but a quick glance at Trevor changes
his mind.
Trevor glares at Kaia for a moment before getting up and
leaving the table.
All of the women are left now. ALICIA, one of Kaia's sister,
a strawberry blonde teenager, leans over the table towards
Kaia.
ALICIA
He is so hot!
Kaia looks to her mother.
KAIA
Mom, what'd you think?
CLAIRE
He's adorable, dear. We could just
eat him up.
A beat.
KAIA
That's not funny.
(beat)
And didn't Daddy say he had a
suitor for me to meet tonight?
CLAIRE
Oh, he was here earlier playing
ball with Josh. They got into it
over a foul. He's in the freezer
now.
(beat)
He might be dinner tomorrow. We'll
see.
Kaia blinks.
ALICIA
Don't worry, Kaia, you didn't miss
anything. Oliver's way cuter.
Kaia smiles weakly. In the background, all the boys are
hooting and hollering over the video game.
EXT. SINCAID HOME - EVENING
The sun's starting to set. Pike and Kaia are walking, hand in
hand, to Pike's bike.
PIKE
God, he just snuck up on me. I had
that match won. Just-
He pumps his fist and groans. He's looking a lot more
relaxed. Kaia keeps looking up at the sky.
PIKE
Anyway, I think that went pretty
well. Minus your dad looking at me
like I was a kabob.
Kaia nervously laughs. They get to his bike and Pike sits
down on it, facing her.
KAIA
Call me and let me know you got
home?
ON a front window of the house. Trevor and the boys are
watching the couple.
PIKE
I'm swinging by G&C's shop first.
Connor and I are working on this
wiring problem.
KAIA
Why not call an electrician?
PIKE
(puffs his chest out)
Because we're men.
Kaia laughs, relaxing a bit. Pike kisses her on the forehead.
KAIA
Still though, when you get home,
call me.
PIKE
Alright, no problem.
He puts his helmet on, fires the engine up, and rides off.
Kaia waves goodbye before marching back into the house.
INT. LIVING ROOM - SINCAID HOME - MOMENTS LATER
All the Sincaid males are sitting around, trying to look like
they weren't spying.
Kaia comes up and walks right up to her father.
KAIA
Daddy, please don't eat him.
Trevor bursts out in laughter.
KAIA
I'm serious.
TREVOR
Kaia-
Kaia sticks out her pinky finger. Trevor looks at it
incredulously.
TREVOR
Kaia, you haven't done this since
you were five.
KAIA
Promise. And once you lock the
finger-
COLBY
You can't break the contact.
KAIA
Contract.
COLBY
Contract.
Trevor sighs and locks his pinky finger with hers, rolling
his eyes.
KAIA
Thank you, Daddy.
(to Colby)
Come on, big guy. Full moon's
tonight. Let's get you ready.
She takes Colby's hand and leads him out of the room.
Josh and two other boys, both in their late teens, walk up to
their dad.
JOSH
Dad, you can't be serious.
Trevor shrugs his shoulders.
TREVOR
I made a promise to my little girl
and I will not break it. I will
not, personally, kill Mr. Pike.
CLAIRE (O.S.)
Boys, do you want some ice cream?
TREVOR
(calling out)
No, honey, the boys are fine.
(smirks)
They're going to go out for a
snack.
He looks at his sons and raises an eyebrow. They get it
immediately.
INT. BASEMENT - SINCAID HOME - EVENING
Kaia is kneeling in front of Colby (who is wearing a
bathrobe) wiping his face with a wet liquid.
Colby is taking deep breaths.
KAIA
Okay, now take this.
She holds up a pill. He looks at it, warily.
KAIA
It's chewable.
He takes it and pops it in his mouth. Kaia gives him a sip of
water so he can swallow it.
KAIA
Okay, we're all set.
Colby nods and walks into the cage. Kaia stars to close it
when:
COLBY
Kaia, can we leave it open?
KAIA
We normally don't during the
trials.
COLBY
(scared)
Please.
Kaia sighs.
KAIA
Okay, but I need you to sit against
the opposite wall.
Colby walks to the other side of the cage and sits down in
the lotus position. Kaia sits down on her knees and checks
her watch.
KAIA
Okay, now breathe and let me know
when you feel it.
Colby nods.
EXT. SINCAID HOME - EVENING
The sun has set now.
INT. BASEMENT - SINCAID HOME - EVENING
Colby starts to sweat and pant. His eyes are closed. He's
fighting the change.
Kaia's eyes are also closed. She's concentrating. The space
between them is smokey from a pile of burning herbs.
Kaia opens her eyes and exhales. She picks up a stopwatch
next to her. It's just past fifteen minutes.
Colby's breathing gets more rapid.
KAIA
Breath slower, Colby. It happens
faster when you go into shock.
Colby's entire body is straining with the effort. His hands
start to come off his knees and FUR begins to appear.
KAIA
Put your hands back. Don't let it
dictate your movements. You're in
control, not it.
Colby's hands return to his knees and the fur stop growing.
COLBY
(straining)
It hurts.
KAIA
It always does. That's the wolf's
way of forcing you to let it out.
You're in control.
The stop watch clocks another minute. Colby's breathing
starts to speed up again. He doubles over and cries out.
ON the stairs as Trevor and Claire come running down them.
Kaia holds up her hand.
KAIA
It's okay, sweetie. Just keep
breathing.
The fur starts to reappear. Colby's arms are shaking
violently.
Another minute on the stopwatch.
KAIA
Colby, open your eyes and look at
me.
Colby looks up at his sister. His eyes are still normal, but
his teeth are noticeably longer.
KAIA
You're doing just fine. Just fine.
Colby bows his head again and we hear a low GROWL.
KAIA
(sadly)
Colby...
Colby throws his head back. His eyes are jet black now and
the fur is coming in waves.
Kaia stands up, a grim expression on her face.
Seconds later, Colby is now in wolf form. He growls loudly at
his sister and parents.
Kaia looks at her stopwatch. He fought it for twenty minutes.
Colby LEAPS at Kaia, who calms pulls out a gun and shoots him
in midair. She sidesteps and Colby slides to a stop at the
base of the stairs.
Trevor bends down and turns his son over, pulling out the
DART in his neck.
KAIA
He did pretty good. It's going to
be harder without the painkillers.
CLAIRE
Well Colby's never liked swallowing
pills.
Kaia picks her brother up and walks him back into the cage.
The door SLAMS behind her.
She whirls around to see her father punching a sequence into
the lock. She runs up and slams her hands into the bars,
letting out a guttural GROWL.
KAIA
Dad! What the hell is this?
TREVOR
I'm changing the code. I couldn't
have you interfering.
KAIA
(getting it)
You promised.
TREVOR
I told you I wouldn't eat the boy.
I'm sticking to that.
Kaia backs up and sniffs the air.
KAIA
(sniffs)
Josh...
(sniffs)
...Tony...
(sniffs)
...and Sebastian?
She shakes her head, not believing this.
KAIA
Mom?
Claire folds her arms around herself and retreats up the
stairs. Kaia steps back up to the front of the cage and
shakes the bars.
KAIA
Mom! Mom!
(to Trevor)
How can you do this? I'm your
daughter, you son of a bitch!
Trevor's hand shoots out and grabs Kaia by the neck. In the
split second it took to do that, his fingernails turned black
and grew about two inches.
His arm is a lot more hairy than it was a second ago. He
looks at his daughter with jet black eyes.
TREVOR
No, you're my property. And just
like any of my other properties, I
need to protect my investment.
He flings her to the ground on top of the still snoozing
Colby. Her hair covers her face as she starts to sob.
TREVOR
Eventually your brothers will grow
up and be courted by other clans.
You and your sisters will carry the
Sincaid name, not them.
He turns and walks up the stairs.
TREVOR
I'm the Alpha of this clan. It's my
job to ensure that happens.
He slams the door behind him. Kaia's head snaps up. Her eyes
are jet black. She snarls, baring canine teeth.
ON Kaia's back. Her shirt starts to rip as a furry back
bulges out of it.
EXT. OCCULT SHOP - NIGHT
Connor and Pike step out, looking smug.
CONNOR
Gabriella wanted us to hire an
electrician.
PIKE
Pft. What do women know?
They high five. Pike gets on his bike and starts it up.
PIKE
Hop on, I'll drop you off.
CONNOR
Nah, it's cool.
A bus rolls by them.
CONNOR
I've got a ride.
Connor takes off running and in the blink of an eye, scales
the back of the bus and gets on the roof as it's driving
away.
Pike smiles, shakes his head, and puts his helmet on.
CUT TO a view from the top of the shop. We hear several
animals breathing as Pike rides away.
INT. BASEMENT - SINCAID HOME - NIGHT
Wolf Kaia SLAMS into the bars at the hinges, but they don't
budge. She lands and slams into them again.
EXT. STREET - NIGHT
Pike whips around a corner. In the background, three wolves
round the corner, gaining on him.
One of them jumps on a car and leaps into the air.
ON Pike's rear view mirror. The airborne wolf is visible in
it. Pike looks back and SWERVES out of the way to avoid being
pounced.
Another wolf comes from the other side and tackles him off
the bike.
They separate and Pike rolls several feet away. He pushes
himself up with his arms, obviously in pain.
He looks back and we follow his glance to see his building
right behind him.
The wolves square up, ready to attack. Pike gets his helmet
off. His eyes are wide in shock and fear.
He scrambles to his feet and runs for his life. The wolves
take off in pursuit.
INT. FIRST FLOOR - PIKE'S BUILDING - NIGHT
Pike runs in and slams his door. He dashes towards the stairs
and we stay on the door.
It explodes into splinters as Kaia's brothers break through.
They look around and sniff the air before bounding towards
the stairs.
ON Pike's feet taking the stairs two at a time.
ON Kaia's brothers alternating bouncing off the stairs and
the walls, moving a lot faster than Pike is.
BACK TO Pike as he enters the door to:
INT. PIKE'S APARTMENT - CONTINUOUS
Pike sprints to the gun case and gets a beretta. The wolves
break his door down.
He looks up and rolls to the side. One of the wolves smashes
into the gun case.
A clip slides clear across the room to a window. Pike dives
over to it and grabs it. He barely has time to duck another
pounce.
The wolf crashes through the glass. Pike steps out to:
EXT. FIRE ESCAPE - PIKE'S BUILDING - CONTINUOUS
From Pike's POV, we see the wolf that went out the window
tumbling down the metal stairs. Pike looks back into his
place to see the other two right after him.
He starts climbing the stairs, firing back at the wolves as
he flees. His clip runs out and he scrambles up the stairs as
fast as he can, pulling out another clip.
EXT. ROOFTOP - PIKE'S BUILDING - CONTINUOUS
Pike climbs the small ladder, yelping when one of the wolves
swipes at his foot. He falls to his stomach on the roof top,
the clip bouncing away from him.
He groans and gets to his feet, sprinting for the clip.
The wolves are now on the roof running after him. He bends
down, never breaking stride, and picks up the clip.
Still running, he loads the gun just before he JUMPS off the
roof.
EXT. FIRE ESCAPE - UNKNOWN BUILDING - CONTINUOUS
Pike slams into railing on the fourth floor fire escape. He
gets himself on solid ground and turns.
A wolf is flying through the air at him, paws out, mouth
open. Pike aims and FIRES.
The wolf whimpers as it goes limp and smashes into the
railing, falling to the ground below.
ON a dumpster as the wolf crashes into it, the hip catching
the edge and denting it before the wolf falls in. One limp
paw hangs out.
The fur and nails retract to a human arm and hand.
Pike runs down the stairs. Above him, but out of frame, we
hear the other two wolves land on the escape. Pike fires a
few shots up, but they bounce off the metal stairs. His clip
runs out.
One of the wolves gets to the flight of stairs he's on and
swipes at him. He jumps back to dodge and flips over the
railing behind him, falling one story to the ground.
The two wolves jump down and block his way out of the alley.
He slowly backs up to a fence. Behind him, we see another
WOLF running up the other side of the alley, this one much
larger than the other two
The two wolves snap their jaws at him, taunting him.
The new wolf leaps over the fence and lands right in front of
Pike, growling at the other two.
Pike has about a half second to take in the new arrival
before it leaps into the nearest wolf. The second wolf
pounces on the attacker.
All three of them roll around on the ground, the bigger
smacking the other two around. They bite and scratch one
another. It's a vicious fight.
Finally, the bigger one gets one of the others' necks in its
jaw and flings it into a wall. It whimpers as it crumbles to
the ground.
The bigger wolf stares down the last opponent, which
backpedals a bit before turning tail and running.
The wolf that got thrown into the wall limply gets back up
and follows.
Pike, panting heavily, stares wide eyed at his saviour. It
turns to him and lets out a loud HOWL.
The howl continues as the fur retracts and a naked Kaia
stands before her boyfriend (of course, we only see from the
neck up).
Pike squints, not believing his eyes. Kaia is bleeding and
bruised, panting as hard as Pike is.
KAIA
Oli?
She faints, falling face first to the ground. Pike's panting
doesn't let up.
BLACK OUT.
END OF ACT TWO
ACT THREE
FADE IN.
INT. G&C'S APARTMENT - NIGHT
ON the door. A loud POUNDING is coming from the other side of
it. Connor steps into frame and opens it to reveal an
exasperated looking Pike.
He's holding Kaia in his arms, wrapped in a bed sheet.
PIKE
(frantic)
We've got a problem.
He walks right past Connor. Lesi looks up at the visitors and
starts BARKING at the top of her lungs.
CONNOR
Pike, what-
(looks outside the door)
-anyone see you come in?
Pike lays Kaia down on the couch. Gabriella covers her with a
blanket and runs into her room.
PIKE
No, but you might want to check on
the concierge at the front desk.
CONNOR
(wary)
Why?
Lesi's still barking.
PIKE
Well, it's kind of hard to stroll
into a building carrying a beat up,
unconscious girl. So I sort
of...pistol whipped him.
Gabriella emerges from her room with a first aid kit. Pike
moves so she can work on Kaia's injuries.
GABRIELLA
(to Connor)
I got this. Go damage control.
Connor's out the door in a flash.
GABRIELLA
Pike, what happened to her?
PIKE
(stammering)
I...I...I got home and there were
these giant wolves.
Gabriella gently lifts Kaia's head and begins to wrap it in
gauze.
PIKE
They chased me down and cornered
me. Then she comes out of nowhere
and saves me.
Gabriella looks at him like he's crazy.
GABRIELLA
Kaia fought off a pack of wolves?
You sure you're not the one with
the concussion?
PIKE
She's one of them.
Gabriella freezes. She looks up at Pike, not wanting to
believe him. She looks back at Kaia, who begins to stir.
ON Lesi, standing a few feet from the couch. It's obvious
she's barking at Kaia now.
CONNOR (O.S.)
She's one of what?
ON Connor, having just returned. Gabriella and Pike back away
from the couch as Kaia continues to stir and murmur.
GABRIELLA
(matter of fact)
Apparently, Kaia's a werewolf.
Connor blinks.
CONNOR
Huh?
KAIA
Oli?
All eyes on Kaia, who is sitting up on the couch now. Pike's
verging on an aneurysm.
PIKE
(to Kaia)
The ones that attacked me.
The ones you fought off. Were those
your brothers?
Kaia doesn't say a word. She just nods.
Pike throws his hands up.
PIKE
I...I can't deal with this right
now.
He brushes past Connor and runs out of the apartment.
Gabriella starts to follow, but Connor cuts off her exit.
CONNOR
Where are you going?
GABRIELLA
After Pike.
CONNOR
No way. You stay with-
(points to Kaia)
-her. I'll go after Pike.
Gabriella gives him a sideways glare.
GABRIELLA
You're scared.
CONNOR
I am not.
GABRIELLA
Fine.
She pulls a quarter out of her pocket and tosses it.
GABRIELLA
Call it.
CONNOR
Heads.
She catches the coin and reveals it. Tails. Connor steps
aside and lets her go.
Lesi's still barking.
CONNOR
(to Lesi)
Lesi, go in your cage!
Lesi trots off towards Gabriella's room, keeping her eyes on
Kaia the whole time until she's out of sight.
CONNOR
Ummm...she's usually not like that
with visitors.
KAIA
It's okay. Most animals react that
way to me.
A beat.
KAIA
You can sit down. I'm not going to
bite.
Connor thinks that idea over for a second.
CONNOR
No, I'm good right here.
Kaia draws the blanket tighter around herself.
