TEASER
FADE IN.
INT. PIKE'S APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM - DAY
CLOSE UP on a hand rotating a small black jewelry box in its
palm.
PULL BACK to show PIKE holding the box.
There's a knock at the door. He turns around to see KAIA
entering. She's showing no signs of her fight from the last
episode.
He smiles at her arrival and hastily shoves the ring box into
his pocket.
KAIA
Hey, babe.
PIKE
Hey.
Quick peck of a kiss.
PIKE
How'd everything turn out at the
hearing?
KAIA
Slam dunk. Cindy testified to
Justin trying to rape her. Ruled it
self defense. No rap sheet for me.
PIKE
(grinning)
That's great.
KAIA
So why the urgent need to take me
out to dinner?
PIKE
(proudly)
Fifteen month anniversary, of
course.
Kaia's face lights up.
KAIA
Awww, you remembered!
The expression instantly drops and she hits him in the chest.
KAIA
(deflated)
Three weeks later.
PIKE
No, no, I knew when it was. Just,
ya know, we kind of couldn't hear
for a day, then you got called for
jury duty and there was the fight
with that tosser and...
Kaia raises her hand, cutting him off.
KAIA
I get your point.
PIKE
Just saying that it's been crazy
lately and we haven't had much time
to just...be together.
Kaia slithers up to him and gently grabs his hips.
KAIA
(seductive)
Well, we could skip dinner.
Pike, surprisingly, pushes her hands off and backs away.
PIKE
I'd be all about if I weren't
starving to death.
KAIA
(scoffs)
Fine. Have it your way.
Pike walks over to his gun case and pulls Buffy from inside
his jacket, setting it in its designated place.
He turns back around and opens his mouth, but can't get his
words out before another KNOCK at the door.
PIKE
(calling out)
It's open.
The door opens, and TRISH, his blue skinned demon tenant,
sticks her head in.
She sees Kaia first.
TRISH
Hey, Kaia!
KAIA
(waves)
Hi, Trish! How's it going?
TRISH
Right now, not so good.
(looks to Pike,)
Could I borrow you? Van's got a
flat tire and I'm about to be late
for work.
Pike looks a tad bit reluctant to help.
PIKE
Well, Kaia and I were going to...
(looks at Kaia; sighs)
Sure, Trish.
He pulls his jacket off and tosses it on the couch.
PIKE
Let me grab my tools.
He sulks off into his room, not looking too happy with the
interruption.
TRISH
Did I interrupt something?
KAIA
Nothing that can't wait 'til later.
He's just pouting.
Pike walks back out carrying a hydraulic jack under his left
arm and a four way lug wrench in his right hand.
PIKE
(passing by Kaia)
Men don't pout.
He gives her a quick kiss. Kaia smiles as she watches him
leave.
EXT. PIKE'S BUILDING - DAY
Out in front of the building, Pike has the car up on the jack
already and is pulling the flat tire off.
Kaia walks out the front door, spotting Pike in front of her.
KAIA
(yelling)
How much longer?
PIKE
(looks to her)
I'm just about done. Can you grab
my jacket? I'll wash my hands down
here.
Kaia disappears back into the building just as Pike lifts the
new tire into mounting position.
INT. SAM WOO'S BBQ - DINING ROOM - DAY
Kaia and Pike accept their menus from the hostess with
smiles.
Kaia takes a quick glance around the room, noticing they're
severely underdressed compared to the other patrons.
KAIA
(leans in; whispers)
I feel like the sore thumb right
now.
PIKE
Relax, it's fine.
KAIA
Still, this feels a little too nice
for a fifteen month.
PIKE
(smiling)
I'm not allowed to spoil my girl?
(beat)
Actually, I gotta admit something.
I've been doing a lot of
thinking...
(pause)
...about us.
Kaia's lip immediately start to quiver.
KAIA
Oh my God. I...Oli, please don't.
PIKE
(continuing)
And I...whoa, what?
KAIA
(pleading)
Whatever I did, we can work on it.
We don't need to break up!
PIKE
What? Breaking up?
(yells)
Hell no!
Everything around them stops, all eyes on the foul mouthed,
underdressed Pike. He meekly smiles to the rest of the room.
After a beat, everything resumes.
PIKE
I'm not breaking up with you.
KAIA
It's just, in the movies-
Pike moans and pinches the bridge of his nose. He knows where
this is going.
KAIA
-when there's a scene like this,
there's usually a big fight and the
couple breaks up and-
PIKE
(finishing for her)
They get back together in the end
and live happily ever after. Every.
Single. Time. So we're gonna skip
all that, okay?
(beat)
God, you have GOT to stop watching
those chick flicks with Gabs.
Kaia composes herself and straightens up.
Pike takes a deep breath and clears his throat.
PIKE
Let me start over. I've been
thinking a lot about us recently
and uh...and uh...I...
(beat; quickly)
...have to go to the bathroom.
He bolts from his seat before Kaia can object.
INT. SAM WOO'S BBQ - MEN'S ROOM - NEXT
Pike splashes a ridiculous amount of water on his face and
rubs his hands all over his head, trying to get his mind
right.
PIKE
(sighs)
Okay, this isn't that hard. You
love her right? Right. It's
nothing. Just the rest of my life.
(beat; whines)
Oh God.
He splashes more water in his face, spitting some of it out
of his mouth.
PIKE
(digs through his pocket)
I can do this.
He pulls up the lining of the pocket. Aside from a bit of
lint, it's empty.
He laughs the nervous kind of laugh that says this isn't
funny in the slightest as he digs through every pocket.
He looks up at the mirror, realization dawning on him.
FLASH CUT TO:
INT. PIKE'S APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM
The notably brown jacket is draped over the arm of the couch.
FLASH CUT TO:
INT. RESTAURANT - MEN'S ROOM - NEXT
Pike holds up the bottom of his black jacket. No words are
needed. Except one.
PIKE
Damn.
BLACK OUT.
END OF TEASER
ACT ONE
FADE IN.
INT. G&C'S CONDO - LIVING ROOM - DAY
The room is dark, all the curtains drawn, and lights turned
off.
CLOSE UP of GABRIELLA on the couch watching her television.
She wipes tears from her eyes with a tissue.
In the background, some appropriately sappy music found in
any tear jerking chick flick is playing.
PAN left across the couch as Gabriella passes the tissue box
over.
It goes past LESI, who whimpers and wipes at her face with
her front paws.
The box stops at CONNOR, who accepts it and uses a tissue to
wipe his tears away.
Connor's cell phone rings and he picks it up.
CONNOR
(sniffling)
Hello?
INTERCUT WITH:
INT. SAM WOO'S BBQ - MEN'S ROOM - CONTINUOUS
Pike turns away from the mirror, surprised to hear his friend
in such a state.
PIKE
(frowns; confused)
Connor?
Connor shoots up from the couch like he's on fire.
CONNOR
(cracking voice)
Pi-
(clears throat; deeper
voice)
Pike. What's up?
PIKE
Were you crying?
CONNOR
(stammering)
No. Heck no, I was-
PIKE
(cutting to the chase)
Dude, I need a favor.
CONNOR
Yeah, of course. What do you need?
He pulls the phone away, covers the mouthpiece, and turns to
Gabriella.
CONNOR
(whispering)
Pause it.
(into the phone)
Say that again. I didn't hear you.
PIKE
I said I need you to go to my place
and pick up the engagement ring. I
left it there.
CONNOR
You're doing it tonight?
PIKE
(sarcastic)
No, I'm gonna pawn it after dinner.
(checks watch)
I'm on a time table here.
CONNOR
Okay, okay.
PIKE
It's in my brown jacket on the
couch. We're at Sam Woo's. I'm
gonna stall as long as I can.
CONNOR
Brown jacket. Sam Woo's. Got it.
(hangs up; to Gabriella)
Gotta go. Pike's having a crisis.
He picks up his keys and heads for the door.
GABRIELLA
Hey, I need some tampons.
CONNOR
(opening the door)
Then you better start walking.
He slams the door quickly, not letting her respond.
INT. SAM WOO'S RESTAURANT - DINING ROOM - DAY
Pike exits the men's room, taking another opportunity to
shake the nerves loose. He takes a final deep breath and
heads back to his seat.
Kaia is standing outside the booth, wiping a large dark red
STAIN on her white skirt.
A young waiter tries to help the clean up, but Kaia slaps his
hand away.
PIKE
(walking up)
What happened?
KAIA
(disgusted)
An accident. He spilled my shiraz.
(throws her hands up)
It's no good.
WAITER
Ma'am, I am so sorry. I...let me
get my manager.
He zips away like a dart. Pike smirks, noting the kid's
unexpected speed.
KAIA
God, I'm sorry Oli.
The MANAGER, a Chinese man in his early fifties in a sharp
suit, walks up to the couple.
MANAGER
Folks, I apologize for this
unfortunate incident.
(to Kaia)
Of course, we'll be happy to
reimburse you for any dry cleaning
charges.
Kaia throws him an insincere smile. Not much of a
consolation.
MANAGER
(to Pike)
Also sir, if you'll just give me a
moment, I'll write you up a voucher
for a free meal on your next visit.
Pike waves that notion off and sits down in the booth.
PIKE
Nah, that's cool. We'll just take
the free meal right now.
KAIA
(incredulous)
Oli, my leg feels sticky.
(to the manager)
We'll take that voucher.
She shoves him away and turns back to her boyfriend.
PIKE
I...but...
KAIA
(getting upset)
Tell you what. If you're that damn
hungry, I'll be outside by the
bike. When you decide you're not
hungry anymore, feel free to join
me.
She stalks off, leaving him alone. He sighs and buries his
face in his hands. What a disaster.
He pulls out his phone and starts to make a call. The screen
flashes 'Battery low' for about two seconds before going
dead.
PIKE
(looks up to the sky)
You are a prankster, aren't you?
He gets up and leaves the booth, brushing aside the manager
who was returning with the voucher.
The manager stands there, dumbfounded. Pike slides back into
frame and snatches the voucher.
PIKE
(rushed)
Have a nice night.
And he's off again.
EXT. PIKE'S BUILDING - EVENING
The sun's about to set, still fully visible, but at the tip
of the horizon.
INT. PIKE'S BUILDING - STAIRWELL - NEXT
Kaia and Pike are walking up the stairs, Kaia in front.
KAIA
I'm sorry I snapped at you earlier.
I just really like this skirt.
PIKE
Yeah, no problem.
(beat)
Hope the ice cream salvaged some of
the evening.
KAIA
Would have if you hadn't taken so
long to order.
PIKE
They've got a great selection.
Kaia stops walking and sniffs the air.
KAIA
(frowns)
Was Connor here earlier?
PIKE
(wary)
Uh, not that I know of.
They reach the top of the flight. Pike pulls out his keys as
he opens the door to the hallway.
KAIA
You sure?
PIKE
Yeah.
(calls out)
I don't see a reason why Connor
would be here at all!
Kaia grabs her ears and gives Pike a look.
INT. PIKE'S APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM - NEXT
Connor is frozen in place, having just heard Pike.
He fishes the engagement ring out of the jacket and dashes to
the window.
INT. PIKE'S BUILDING - NEXT
Pike struggles a bit to open the door. He turns to Kaia and
sheepishly smiles.
PIKE
(nervous)
Door's been sticking lately.
He finally gets it open and they enter:
INT. PIKE'S APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM - CONTINUOUS
Kaia turns on the lights to see Connor halfway out the window
to the fire escape. He stops when he sees he's caught.
KAIA
I thought so. What are you doing
here?
CONNOR
(blinks)
Uh...
PIKE
He was...
CONNOR
A prank!
Kaia crosses her arms, not believing that.
KAIA
A prank?
PIKE
Yeah, a prank.
(nervously laughs)
I got him good last week.
CONNOR
Mm hmm. I was just gonna return the
favor.
KAIA
A prank. I see. Nice to know you're
both ten years old.
(to Connor; icily)
Go home.
CONNOR
(nods)
Right.
(waves)
Later.
He steps out the window and starts down the fire escape.
EXT. PIKE'S BUILDING - FIRE ESCAPE - NEXT
Connor climbs down two levels of the escape before he jumps
over the rail of the landing, free falling the final few
stories.
He nimbly lands on his feet, dusts himself off and walks out
of the alley.
In front of him, the sun has completely set now, only a few
minutes of actual sunlight left in the day.
INT. PIKE'S APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM - NEXT
Kaia's looking out the window
KAIA
(to Pike)
Be right back.
She dips into Pike's room. The second she's out of sight, he
snatches up the jacket and searches the pockets for the ring.
Coming up empty, he looks lost for a half second before
figuring out what happened.
PIKE
(groans)
Connor...
He drops the jacket and slumps down on the couch, again
burying his face in his hands.
Kaia sneaks up on him and starts kissing the back of his
neck.
He squirms away, trying to resist her advances.
PIKE
Kaia, I'm not-
He's cut off when Kaia forcibly turns his head around and
kisses him. That's all it takes for him to forget about the
rest of the world.
He falls to his back and stretches out on the couch. Kaia
straddles him and begin to take off her shirt.
INT. GABRIELLA'S CAR - NIGHT
Connor's driving with his left hand and speaking into his
phone with his right.
CONNOR
(into phone)
No, I'm not getting you any damn
tampons!
(beat; whining)
Because it's a man law violation!
(beat; groans)
Fine, let me see how much money I
have.
He reaches into his inside pocket, but instead of pulling out
his wallet, he gets Kaia's engagement ring.
CONNOR
(muttering)
Uh oh.
(into phone)
I'll have to call you back.
He hangs up with Gabriella and yanks the wheel hard, making a
U-turn.
INT. PIKE'S APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM - NEXT
Back with the lovebirds, still kissing.
Pike's sitting up with Kaia on his lap, rubbing his hands all
over her bare back. Kaia helps him get rid of his shirt.
EXT. CITY STREET - NIGHT
Gabriella's car speeds through the streets, sending random
debris into the air.
Connor has to slam on the brakes to avoid running a red
light, just barely making the stop.
A SHOT looking at the front windshield shows Connor hit the
steering wheel in frustration.
INT. PIKE'S APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM - NEXT
Kaia's back on top. The angle (of the camera) is behind and
above her, looking over her left shoulder. A blanket conceals
both of their nether regions.
The thump of a HEARTBEAT starts to drown out their moans of
passion.
EXT. PIKE'S BUILDING - NIGHT
The thumping continues, starting to increase in pace.
A wide, far angle shot of the building shows Connor parallel
parking the car across from it. A group of kids are playing
dodgeball in middle of the street.
There's a full moon high in the sky to the right of the
building.
Connor messes up the parking job and has to start over,
pulling back out into the street.
INT. PIKE'S APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM - NEXT
The rapid beating is the only sound now.
Kaia, still on top, throws her head back and opens her eyes.
They're all BLACK. She starts to shake and her lips tremble.
Under her, Pike arches his back and closes his eyes, reaching
his climax.
While he's enjoying that bit of paradise, Kaia's teeth start
to grow and fur appears on her back.
CUT TO a low angle shot of Pike, opening his eyes and looking
up at the out of frame Kaia. His eyes go wide as he sees
what's happening.
The normal sound resumes just as he SCREAMS at the top of his
lungs.
EXT. PIKE'S BUILDING - NEXT
Connor's head snaps up, hearing Pike's scream echo in the
empty streets. He runs for the entrance.
INT. PIKE'S APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM - NEXT
Pike continues to scream in fright as he rolls off the couch,
the blanket wraps his waist, thankfully shielding his
manhood.
Kaia rolls off with him, tumbling out of frame.
Pike scrambles backwards on his butt, gasping with fear.
In the foreground, Kaia falls to all fours, the frame only
showing the side of her arm, shoulder, and face. Her nose
elongates into a snout and fur completely covers every inch
of her skin.
CLOSE UP on Pike's face, paralyzed with fear.
CUT TO Kaia, now in full wolf form, growling as she turns her
attention to Pike.
She rears back and:
INT. PIKE'S BUILDING - STAIRWELL - NEXT
A loud HOWL stops Connor dead in his tracks. He looks up to
the top of the stairs.
CONNOR
Oh no.
He continues his ascent, doubling his pace.
INT. PIKE'S APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM - NEXT
Pike gets to his feet just in time to get POUNCED by Kaia.
She snaps her jaws down, trying to bite his neck.
He yells as he desperately pushes her away and moves his
head.
She's repeatedly scratching him with her claws. He gets his
feet on her belly and flips her over him.
They get back to their feet, circling one another.
A wide out shot shows Pike is slowly being backed up as he
circles, Kaia effectively cutting the room off.
Pike looks to his gun case, judging the distance.
Big mistake. Kaia leaps at him. He rolls to the side and
sprints for the case. Kaia tumbles on the ground and rolls
back to her feet, bounding across the room.
She jumps again, smacking her entire weight into Pike's side
like a linebacker.
Pike is knocked into the air by the force of the blow and
smashes through the window to:
EXT. PIKE'S BUILDING - FIRE ESCAPE - CONTINUOUS
Pike's body sails through a hailstorm of shattered glass. His
back hits the guard rail and he's knocked for a backwards
flip over it.
He lunges for and misses the bottom of that landing, but
manages to snag the one a level below.
The blanket that was covering him gently floats to the ground
below, leaving him stark naked.
He gasps and moans, scared out of his mind as he looks over
his shoulder to the LONG way down to the ground. Unlike
Connor, he knows can't survive that far a fall without
injury.
A GROWl gets him to look up. Kaia is looking over the rail
down at him.
He looks back down, obviously considering his chances.
CONNOR (O.S.)
Pike?!? Pike, I'm coming in!
Pike looks up to his place and Kaia turns around, looking
back into the penthouse. She jumps back through the window
sill.
PIKE
(eyes wide)
Connor!
