ACT TWO
FADE IN.
EXT. PORT 21 - SAN PEDRO BAY - NIGHT
Ethan and his coven float over to the helicopter/car
wreckage. Ethan picks up a piece of the blade, regarding it
like a small child.
ETHAN
(sighs)
Shame. I've wanted a helicopter.
He drops the blade and stalks towards his foes, who stare
back at him with fire in their eyes.
His coven falls into step behind him.
ETHAN
(nods to Gabriella)
I assume you have the Eye of Anubis
in that bag you're carrying. I'll
take it now if you wouldn't mind.
Gabriella stays on all fours while Connor stumbles and
staggers up to his fight, ready to fight.
CONNOR
(gasping)
Over...my...dead body.
Ethan looks to his right, silently conferring with three
coven members. He does the same with the three on his left.
ETHAN
(nonchalant)
We've decided that's a fair
negotiation.
Connor's eyes go wide and he starts convulsing like he's
going to vomit.
CONNOR
(dry heaving)
I...don't...feel...so...
He passes out, falling face first to the ground!
Gabriella scrambles up to him and turns him around.
GABRIELLA
Connor, oh my God, Connor!
Her head snaps up to Ethan, who smugly smirks right back at
her.
Gabriella's eyes flash yellow.
GABRIELLA
What did you do to him?
ETHAN
Nothing actually. I was trying to
decide what spell to dismember him
with and he just-
He points his thumb to the ground and blows a raspberry.
ETHAN
Quite disappointing, to be honest
with you.
(nods to his right)
Eric had a wonderful flaying spell
in mind.
Gabriella grits her teeth, seething. She grunts and the air
RIPPLES as she sends an invisible shockwave at Ethan.
He doesn't move an inch, nor does anyone else. The wave stops
in front of them and disperses with a 'pft' sound.
Gabriella breathes heavily, charges up for another attack.
Suddenly, her hands drop back to the ground and despite her
best effort, she can't lift them back up!
Ethan strides over to her and kneels on one knee, looking her
dead in the eye.
ETHAN
While I can appreciate the bravado,
this is doing nothing but wasting
precious time for both of us.
(looks over to Connor)
He doesn't look well, Gabriella. He
needs medical attention.
Gabriella SPITS in his face! It's about all she can do at
this point.
GABRIELLA
(straining)
Go to hell, you sick son of a
bitch!
ETHAN
(smirking)
My, that's a dirty mouth. You need
to wash it out.
With that, he snaps his head towards the water.
Gabriella is sent flying through the air, screaming just
before splashing violently into the cold river.
EXT. LOS ANGELES RIVER - CONTINUOUS
Gabriella flails her arms as air bubbles fly out of her
mouth.
She tries to swim up, but she can't move anywhere!
Her movements get more and more frantic as she remains
trapped underwater.
Her eyes start to flutter and her arms go limp. She's
drowning.
Suddenly, her body is propelled upward, flying out and back
into the air.
EXT. PORT 21 - SAN PEDRO BAY - CONTINUOUS
Gabriella spits out as much water as she can muster, trying
to force fresh air into her lungs.
She's suspended in mid air above the water.
ON the coven, all holding their hands out at her.
Ethan looks at his students, smiling like a proud father.
He FLOATS into the air, coming to a stop in front of
Gabriella.
ETHAN
Are you quite done yet? All this
defiance is beginning to grate.
Gabriella can't answer, her lungs still clogged up.
ETHAN
Look, this is all very simple.
His head snaps to the side and Gabriella goes flying in that
direction.
She smacks into a stone wall separating this pier from the
next, crying out in pain upon impact.
Ethan floats back to the ground and walks over with the coven
to Gabriella. She's pinned against the wall, feet dangling
off the ground.
Ethan holds out his hand and slowly closes it. Gabriella
starts to float away from the wall. She's frozen in a spread
eagle position.
ETHAN
I really hate to harm such a
beautiful creature.
His hand snaps open and Gabriella is flung back into the
wall, again crying out.
He closes his hand, bringing her close again.
ETHAN
However, I'm not the one calling
the shots here.
He opens his hand and Gabriella hits the wall again.
ETHAN
Now, if you would be so kind-
He pulls her away and throws her into the wall again, a blood
stain being left behind where her head hits.
ETHAN
-as to turn the Eye over to me-
And again she's smashed into the wall. She's almost out now,
barely maintaining consciousness.
ETHAN
-we can end all this.
He throws her into the wall one final time and releases her
from his grip.
She crumbles to the ground, defeated.
GABRIELLA
(shakily)
You already know it's in the bag.
She looks up at Ethan with tears in her eyes.
GABRIELLA
Just get it.
Ethan shakes his head. That's not good enough.
He holds his hand out behind him, towards the area behind the
destroyed dock.
Gabriella's bag zips into it!
He drops the bag in front of her.
ETHAN
(smug)
Get it yourself.
Gabriella looks up at him, not believing what he's asking.
ETHAN
(icily)
Get it out and hand it to me
yourself.
Gabriella unsteadily opens the bag and pulls out the
talisman. She holds it out to Ethan.
ETHAN
(stern)
Put it in my hand.
Gabriella slowly crawls over to him and grabs his shirt,
tugging at it to pull herself up.
She reaches up and puts the Eye into his outstretched hand. A
piece of his shirt rips off in her other hand as she crumbles
back to the ground.
He smirks again, triumphant.
ETHAN
See. That wasn't so hard.
(looks at his shirt)
I'll bill you for the shirt.
He turns and walks away, his coven following behind him.
Gabriella slumps lifelessly to the ground.
GABRIELLA
Connor...
She reaches into the bag with one hand and pulls out her
phone.
PULL AWAY from the chaotic scene. A ship HORN blares in the
distance.
INT. CEDAR SINAI ICU - WAITING AREA - NIGHT
Kaia is sitting in one of the chairs that lines the halls,
her head down and hands cupped like she's praying.
Down the hall, Pike runs at top speed, dodging and shoving
everyone out of his way.
Kaia looks up when she hears his boot steps.
She stands and crossing her arms, avoiding his eyes. He does
the same.
Awkward silence.
PIKE
(sighs)
How are they?
KAIA
Gab's going to be okay. She's got a
concussion and a few broken ribs,
but she's awake.
PIKE
(voice rising)
You call that okay?!?
KAIA
(nods)
Comparatively speaking, yeah.
Pike's expression softens as he picks up on what she just
implied.
PIKE
Connor?
Kaia's eyes well up and she shakes her head.
Pike puts his hands on his head and turns around.
PIKE
(sighs)
Oh God.
KAIA
No, he's alive...barely.
(chokes up a bit)
He's in a coma. They don't know if
he's going to come out of it.
Pike turns around to her, looking like he's really, REALLY
needs to shoot something.
PIKE
What happened to them?
KAIA
I don't know. Gab called me and
could barely get out that she was
at San Pedro Bay. Pretty sure she
passed out.
(beat)
I got there as fast as I could.
PIKE
Did you see anything that could've
done this to them?
KAIA
No, but her car was destroyed. A
helicopter crashed into it.
PIKE
(disbelieving)
A helicopter?!?
KAIA
The whole place was a wreck. They
were both out cold.
Pike sighs and slumps down in another chair, his head down.
Kaia slowly sits down next to him. She goes to pat him on the
back, but thinks better of it.
Pike rubs his hands over his face, trying to compose himself.
PIKE
You said Gab's awake.
(looks to Kaia)
Have you talked to her yet?
Kaia looks up at Pike. They hold gazes for a moment before
Kaia stands up and motions for Pike to follow her.
EXT. IN AND OUT BURGER - PATIO - NIGHT
Tracy carries a tray of food over to a circular table where
the rest of the coven are sitting.
They're clearly energized, the adrenaline still pumping from
the scene at the docks.
REBECCA (V.O.)
(giggling)
Did you see how she swung her arms
in mid air like she could swim
through the sky?
They all laugh out loud.
CRYSTAL (V.O.)
How about that Connor guy? He's all
cheesy action flick and with his-
(mocking)
'over my dead body.' I didn't think
people really said that.
Ethan walks up and SLAMS his hands on the table.
ETHAN
Children, I knew you're a little
buzzed, but we have to-
ERIC (V.O.)
Hey!
Ethan looks to Eric, who pulls on his ear.
ERIC (V.O.)
Uh, we're not lip readers.
ETHAN
(chuckles)
Oh...
He shakes his head and look back at Eric.
ETHAN (V.O.)
Better?
Everyone nods.
ETHAN (V.O.)
Eat up. We still have a lot of work
ahead of us tonight. Stage three
will be our most difficult
challenge yet and we all need to be
at full strength.
(beat; looks to Tracy)
Do they serve milk shakes here?
Tracy grins and points to the front counter.
INT. CEDAR SINAI ICU - GABRIELLA'S ROOM - NEXT
Kaia opens the door and lets Pike go in first.
A Hispanic DOCTOR with short cropped hair nods to the
visitors before he leaves.
Gabriella offers a weak smile to her friends.
Pike walks over and slips his hand in hers. Kaia takes
Gabriella's other hand.
PIKE
(smirking)
Might be deja vu, but I could've
sworn we were just here the other
day.
GABRIELLA
(smiles and sighs)
How's Connor?
Kaia and Pike share a look.
PIKE
We're...waiting on the doctors to
tell us something.
Gabriella nods, accepting that for the time being.
KAIA
Gabriella, what happened to you
guys?
GABRIELLA
Ethan.
Pike's expressions immediately tightens up.
GABRIELLA
Connor and I were meeting some
people that were going to help out
with the Eye. Ethan ambushed us.
Him and those kids.
(shakes her head)
They were so powerful.
KAIA
Magic?
GABRIELLA
(nodding)
Just like Ojai. He's juiced up on
something. I don't know what.
PIKE
What'd he do to Connor? He hasn't
woken up yet.
Kaia shoots him a dirty look. Why did he say that? Pike gives
her an apologetic face in return.
GABRIELLA
(shocked)
What?!?
(gasping)
What do you mean he hasn't woken up
yet?!?
Gabriella's teetering on a panic attack. Kaia grabs her by
her shoulders and turns her so they're looking eye to eye.
KAIA
Hey, breath.
Gabriella's breathing is coming in rapid fire gasps.
KAIA
Come on, we need you calm. Breath,
honey. In...
Gabriella sucks in a deep breath.
KAIA
Out.
She exhales.
KAIA
Just like that.
Gabriella's breathing returns to normal. She swallows a lump
in her throat, regaining her composure.
GABRIELLA
(sighs)
Ethan didn't lay a finger on
Connor. There was the geysers-
PIKE
Geysers?
GABRIELLA
Then the helicopter crash-
Pike blinks. He missed a hell of a lot.
GABRIELLA
Connor got up like he was going to
fight and he just...fell.
KAIA
He passed out?
GABRIELLA
(nods)
He hadn't been feeling well all
day. God, it's my fault. I
shouldn't have asked him to-
Now Pike grabs Gabriella's shoulders and turns her to face
him.
PIKE
Stop right there. None of this is
your fault. Okay?
Gabriella's expression doesn't imply that she agrees, but she
consents and nods.
PIKE
(releasing Gabriella)
I'm gonna go find the docs and see
what the prognosis on Connor is.
He leaves the room. Kaia grabs Gabriella's hand and gives it
a squeeze.
GABRIELLA
Hey, I need a favor.
KAIA
What is it?
GABRIELLA
(beat)
I need some supplies.
Kaia looks at Gabriella like she's crazy.
INT. CEDAR SINAI ICU - WAITING AREA - NEXT
In another area of the wing, Pike is standing at a nurse's
desk with a DOCTOR.
DOCTOR
Mr. Pike, we ran a CAT scan on your
friend. All of his brain activity
appears to be normal.
PIKE
(confused)
So what's wrong with him?
The doctor waves his hand.
DOCTOR
Please follow me.
They begin walking down the hall.
DOCTOR
I'm afraid Mr. Angel's body is
shutting down.
PIKE
Shutting down?
DOCTOR
(nods)
His vital organs are slowing their
output. One by one. His lungs and
heart aren't pumping enough
oxygenated blood. His intestines
aren't processing anything. He's...
(clears throat)
His body is just...refusing to
work.
PIKE
(worried)
Is there anything you can do?
DOCTOR
(beat; sighs)
Make him comfortable?
Pike closes his eyes and turns around. Not the answer he
wanted.
DOCTOR
We're still waiting on some test
results, but until we can figure
out what's causing this, we can't
do anything.
Pike's expression turns grim. They stop walking outside a set
of double doors. The doctor points and Pike peeks in the
window.
Looking over his shoulder, Connor is inside the room, hooked
up to all kinds of life support devices.
PIKE
(mumbling)
How long?
(turns around)
How long until his body gives out?
DOCTOR
At the rate he's going, he won't
survive through the night.
(beat)
I'm very sorry, Mr. Pike.
The doctor walks away, leaving Pike to stew in his anger. He
chokes up a bit, fighting the heavy emotions.
He looks back in the window at his dying friend.
Behind him, Kaia walks up and grabs his shoulder.
PIKE
(not turning around)
Yeah?
KAIA
I have to step out for a bit. Can
you stay with-
She stops when Pike turns around and she sees the anguish on
his face.
KAIA
What's wrong?
Pike takes a deep breath.
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. CEDAR SINAI ICU - GABRIELLA'S ROOM - LATER
Pike's seated in a chair next to Gabriella with his hands on
his head.
Gabriella's staring at the wall away from Pike.
Kaia enters the room, carrying a box full of books and
trinkets.
KAIA
Okay, I think I got everything on
your list.
PIKE
Whoa. What's going on here?
(to Gabriella)
You're in no kind of shape to be
doing any magic.
Gabriella slowly pushes herself upright.
GABRIELLA
(pained)
Don't really have much of a choice,
do I?
Kaia sets the box on the rolling tray normally used for food
and wheels it in front of Gabriella.
GABRIELLA
(looking into the box)
Yeah, yeah I think this is
everything. Thanks.
She start to pull materials out, stopping to hand the box off
to Pike when she runs out of room.
KAIA
What are you going to do?
GABRIELLA
Figure out what's wrong with
Connor.
KAIA
What? How?
GABRIELLA
A hunch.
Kaia sits down in a chair next to Pike, her eyes staying on
Gabriella.
GABRIELLA
Doctors are saying they can't find
anything that's physically causing
his body to break down.
KAIA
You think it might be magical? Like
a curse?
GABRIELLA
I don't know, but even if it's not,
that's one less possibility to
worry about.
(beat)
Can you guys give me a few minutes?
PIKE
Sure.
Gabriella lays back on the bed and closes her eyes,
preparing. Off screen, the door shuts.
INT. CEDAR SINAI ICU - WAITING AREA - NEXT
Pike gets about two seconds out of the room before he whirls
on Kaia.
PIKE
Can you find Rayne?
KAIA
What? Why?
PIKE
(deadpan)
Because I need target practice and
his head's the perfect size. Think
you can find him?
KAIA
(huffs)
I...I don't know. I'd recognize his
scent if I picked it up.
Pike turns around and starts to walk away.
PIKE
That's good enough.
KAIA
Oli, he could be anywhere. Did you
plan on driving all over the city
with my head out the window,
sniffing the air?
Pike stops. She's right.
PIKE
(pleading)
We need to do something.
KAIA
(thinks)
I have an idea, but I need to ask
Gabriella for something first.
Pike turns around and starts to open the door, but Kaia stops
him.
KAIA
Wait. Let her do her thing first.
She looks through the window at Gabriella, who appears to be
sleeping.
KAIA
Whatever it is.
Pike sighs and nods.
INT. CEDAR SINAI ICU - GABRIELLA'S ROOM - NEXT
PUSH IN on Gabriella until her face is the only thing
visible.
Her eyes snap open on a quick ZOOM out.
She's standing in her room now, wearing the same clothes she
was when Ethan attacked her, though she doesn't have a
scratch on her.
She's also tinted an ethereal blue, like a ghost, and
partially transparent.
She turns around to see her body (normal color), still
resting peacefully in the bed.
When she speaks, her voice has a slight echo.
GABRIELLA
That never stops being creepy.
Around her, the room is alternatively flashing different
vibrant colors.
GABRIELLA
Okay, part two.
She inhales deeply and closes her eyes again. ZOOM IN on her
face and:
MATCH CUT TO:
INT. CEDAR SINAI ICU - CONNOR'S ROOM - NEXT
ZOOM OUT to a normal view.
Now Gabriella's in Connor's room. The doors are open. Just
outside it, three doctors are having a conversation. The one
that spoke to Pike, the one from Gabriella's room, and
another one, a female.
As Gabriella watches, they flicker and change to the same
blue shade she is. She squints her eyes at them as they
flicker back.
The flickering continues. The Hispanic doctor's blue form
isn't a duplicate of himself, but rather a large reptilian
looking lizard.
GABRIELLA
(scoffs)
That's a good glamour.
She turns around to look at Connor and GASPS in horror, her
hands covering her mouth.
Connor's normal body is resting peacefully.
It flickers to his blue form. This Connor is screaming and
writhing as if in intense pain.
It flickers again, this time to a red Connor.
This Connor is sitting up on the bed with his legs crossed,
filing his nails. He checks his watch and starts whistling
the tune to 'Margaritaville' by Jimmy Buffet.
Another flicker. Now it's a green Connor, snarling and
hissing like a reptile.
Another flicker returns to normal Connor. Then the process
starts all over again.
Gabriella's hands slowly come down from her mouth. Her eyes
tell an epic story of concern and confusion.
ON (blue) Connor again. Screaming in agony.
BLACK OUT.
END OF ACT TWO
