INT. CONNOR'S OLD WAREHOUSE - NIGHT
Laurence finishes pulling a shirt over his upper body, he
tries to tuck it in, but it's a bit too short. Colleen is
sitting on a crate nearby, already dressed.
Kaia and Alicia are across the room by a door leading into an
office, both looking very bemused.
KAIA
Sorry. You've got a couple of
inches on my brother.
LAURENCE
It's fine, thank you.
The two of them nod towards one another.
ALICIA
So, uh, what are you?
Kaia throws Alicia a look, but Colleen simply chuckles.
COLLEEN
Is it that obvious?
(beat)
We're Ahurian by birth. Our
dimension neighbors this one.
LAURENCE
Wolfram and Hart now use it as a
holding dimension for rogue
employees. What's left of our race
remain there and serve as their
agents.
ALICIA
So... you're a race of posers?
Kaia slaps Alicia in the back of the head and grabs her by
the arm.
KAIA
We'll be going now. Connor said he
needed to look into something.
He'll be here soon.
COLLEEN
(nodding)
Thanks again for the loners.
Kaia gives a curt smile and yanks Alicia behind her out of
the warehouse. After she shuts the exit door behind, Laurence
moans and crosses his arms.
LAURENCE
Werewolves. They're the same in
every dimension.
COLLEEN
(shakes her head)
Absolutely no class.
ALICIA (O.S.)
(screaming)
Hey, we heard that!
(beat)
Owww, Kaia! What'd I say?
Outside the warehouse, a car engine starts up.
EXT. PIKE'S BUILDING - NIGHT
Gabriella cautiously looks around the deserted streets as she
approaches Connor's car. She gets down on all fours and looks
under it, seeing a small BLACK BOX with a blinking red light
on it.
She's quickly surrounding by a half dozen SWAT members all
holding their guns on her. She sighs as she sizes them all
up.
SWAT GUY 1
Don't make us do it, lady! Just get
your hands up!
Gabriella ignores that order, instead running right at the
man who just spoke to her. They all open fire, but the
bullets pass right through Gabriella!
She smirks and slowly fades away.
PULL BACK to an alley across the street. Pike and Gabriella
are kneeling down behind a trash bin, the latter just now
opening her eyes.
PIKE
(dumbstruck)
Gab, you've got to teach me how to
ass project sometime.
Gabriella pops him on the arm.
GABRIELLA
There's a tracer under the driver's
side door. Didn't look like it was
welded on or anything.
PIKE
Okay, so how do we get through them
to get to it?
Gabriella holds out her hand and a small ball of light shoots
out of it towards the street.
Pike, remembering this spell, immediately closes his eyes.
GABRIELLA
Illustro!
The ball explodes into a brilliant white light that blinds
all of the SWAT guys in the streets.
Gabriella and Pike hold their hands up over their eyes as
they both run across the street to Connor's car. The light
goes away, but all the SWAT guys are still seeing flash
spots.
Pike quickly removes the tracker. Gabriella tosses him the
keys and they both get in the car, quickly getting away
before the SWAT guys recover.
INT. PROFESSOR MARRUS'S HOME - OFFICE - NEXT
Prof. Marrus is sitting at her desk now with Connor standing
in front of it.
PROF. MARRUS
Ethan designed the memory spells we
used on you all. But he bolted as
soon as he was paid. Not only that,
but he took six of our most
promising students with him.
Connor's jaw drops as he puts it together.
CONNOR
Those were the kids in his-
(to himself)
Tracy.
PROF. MARRUS
I'm so sorry I kept all this from
you, Connor. I've been keeping tabs
on all of the remaining Prodigy
subjects, trying to make ensure
they-
CONNOR
(cutting in)
What about Bridget? What do you
know about her?
PROF. MARRUS
Just that her talents are scary
high for someone that young. We
never did find out the limits of
her powers. I guess only the Higher
Powers would know that.
CONNOR
(snorts)
Good luck getting anything out of
them.
PROF. MARRUS
Actually, there is a way to speak
to them, but... it's not easy.
Connor shakes his head and starts pacing.
CONNOR
(exasperated)
You think I care about that right
now? I just need to get her back.
PROF. MARRUS
I know and I want to help.
Connor sneers at her and turns his back to leave.
CONNOR
(cold)
No thanks.
PROF. MARRUS
I think I know who has her!
Connor turns around, suddenly more interested.
PROF. MARRUS
And I think I know what their
intentions are.
(beat)
I feel horrible for lying to you.
Please let me help, however I can.
Their eyes stay locked on one another, but Connor's hardened
demeanor noticeably weakens.
INT. CONNOR'S OLD WAREHOUSE - NEXT
Connor enters a side door and using a chain pulley to raise a
nearby garage door, allowing Prof. Marrus to drive her car
into the lower floor of the warehouse. Gabriella, Pike,
Laurence, and Colleen approach him and look at the car with
confusion.
Prof. Marrus steps out and hands Connor a small duffel bag.
She enters something into her cell phone before stuffing it
in her purse.
CONNOR
(addressing everyone)
Everyone, this is-
GABRIELLA
(finishing for him)
Michelle Marrus.
All eyes go to Gabriella. Prof. Marrus nervously scratches
the back of her neck.
PROF. MARRUS
So you remember me, then. I always
tried to keep a low profile.
GABRIELLA
I rarely forget a face.
Prof. Marrus accepts that and walks further into the
warehouse.
PROF. MARRUS
If I'm correct about who's behind
this, then we don't have much time,
so-
Connor holds up his hands while walking towards her.
CONNOR
Just a minute.
He looks up to the ceiling and speaks to seemingly thin air.
CONNOR
You guys can come out. I know
you're watching.
Making no sound at all, a dozen of the CYBORG NINJAS drop
down, quickly surrounding our gang. Everyone but Connor and
Pike drop into fighting stances.
Pike simply pulls a gun while Connor doesn't look the least
bit concerned.
INT. EVE'S HIDEOUT - BEDROOM - NEXT
Eve enters the room, sipping from a large can of Red Bull.
Bridget is completely unconscious on the bed. Eve checks a
bag on the floor at the foot of the bed and pulls out a cell
phone.
CLOSE UP on the face of the phone displaying a text message
saying "The timetable has been stepped up. Get into position
now."
Eve puts the phone back in the bag and slings it on her
shoulder.
She sticks her head outside the door to the room and
WHISTLES. Two SWAT members come in, both with guns strapped
to their backs.
SWAT MEMBER 1
Yes, ma'am?
EVE
Apparently the plans have changed.
We're moving out now.
SWAT MEMBER 1
(nods)
Understood.
He turns and nods to the other guy, who scoops Bridget up off
the bed and carries her out of the room. Eve and the first
guy follow.
INT. CONNOR'S OLD WAREHOUSE - NEXT
Connor steps in front of his group and holds his hands out.
CONNOR
Alright, hang on a sec.
Gabriella's eyes flash YELLOW and crackles of energy start to
spark around her body.
CONNOR
(to Gabriella)
Hey, I said cool it! It's okay, I
knew they were here.
He kneels to one knee and pulls a small black pin, barely the
size of a thumbtack, off the sole of his shoe.
The DUTCH MAN pushes his way through two of the ninjas and
Connor tosses the bug to him.
CONNOR
Felt you slap it on me when I
jumped your shoulder.
DUTCH MAN
Then why did you choose to wait
until now to say as much, Connor?
CONNOR
My questions first, since you seem
to know so much. Who the hell are
you?
DUTCH MAN
Very well, My name is Cobus Faas.
(motions to the ninjas)
I represent the Berschermer Van
Licht.
Pike silently tries to repeat that name to himself.
Apparently he messes up because he shakes his head and tries
again.
GABRIELLA
(whispers to Pike)
Protectors of Light.
PIKE
(shrugs)
Don't sound like any Asian I've
ever heard.
The Dutch Man, whom we know now is COBUS FAAS, glances at
Pike briefly before turning back to Connor.
FAAS
We are based out of Holland, but
our partners in the Kung-Su-Dai are
responsible for affording us
certain...
He pauses and looks around at the ninjas.
FAAS
... technologies we would not have
able to acquire on our own. We're
here-
CONNOR
(holds up his hand)
Save it. I'm assuming we both want
the same thing.
FAAS
The girl.
Connor nods.
CONNOR
I'm thinking the best way for all
of us to be happy is to pool our
resources.
FAAS
Why should we help you? We have
been more than successful in
liberating many subjects of the
Prodigy program.
CONNOR
If you knew how and where to find
Bridge now, you wouldn't be here
and you wouldn't have bugged me,
would you? I would've called you
out earlier, but I wasn't ready to
negotiate yet.
Awkward moment as Faas considers his options.
FAAS
Very well, what are your terms?
CONNOR
Simple. You leave Bridget under my
protection.
Faas LAUGHS and Gabriella approaches Connor.
GABRIELLA
(whispering)
Can I remind you we only have a two
bedroom?
Connor holds up his hand in front of her face to shut her up.
FAAS
(chuckles)
And what is the benefit for us,
might I ask?
Connor points to Prof. Marrus, who blinks in surprise.
CONNOR
She can give you the names and
locations of all of the remaining
Project Prodigy kids.
PROF. MARRUS
(shocked)
I will do no such thing!
CONNOR
(to Prof. Marrus)
You said you wanted to make it up
to me, right? This is how you're
going to do it.
All eyes (and metal face plates) look to Prof. Marrus, who
looks like she'd rather be anywhere but here. After a moment,
she sighs and nods.
PROF. MARRUS
Very well. The project's largely
been a failure to date anyway.
CONNOR
(to Faas)
So do we have a deal? I keep one
and you get the rest.
Faas extends his hand and Connor accepts it.
FAAS
Agreed.
Connor nods and turns back to Prof. Marrus.
CONNOR
Alright, where are we going?
Prof. Marrus takes a deep breath as everyone looks to her
again.
EXT. CAVE - NIGHT
Eve, carrying a small leather pouch in her hands, leads a
SWAT team of about twenty to the entrance of a dark, barely
lit cave. She turns to address her troops.
One of them, we'll call him the SWAT LEADER, is carrying
Bridget in his arms.
EVE
(points)
You five come with me. The rest of
you, make sure we're not disturbed.
They all nod and Eve continues into the cave flanked by five
men.
EXT. CITY STREET - NEXT
Looking up at roofs of the buildings surrounding the streets,
the cyborg ninjas nimbly dart across them.
PAN DOWN to the actual street where Prof. Marrus's car
crosses an intersection. It moves forward out of frame to
reveal Connor's car right behind her.
INSIDE CONNOR'S CAR
Gabriella in the passenger seat next to Connor with Pike and
Faas in the back. Connor's phone is mounted on the dashboard
with the flip open.
PROF. MARRUS (O.S.)
(through phone)
Her name is Eve.
Gabriella scoffs and holds the bridge of her nose.
GABRIELLA
(disgusted)
Are you serious?
CONNOR
(looks to Gabriella)
The liaison chick?
PIKE
So we're up against a PR rep? This
should be easy then.
INSIDE PROF. MARRUS'S CAR
Prof. Marrus also has her phone mounted on her dashboard.
Colleen is seated next to her with Laurence in the back.
PROF. MARRUS
In addition to that, she was also
the genesis of Prodigy.
FAAS (O.S.)
(through phone)
I do not remember this Eve from any
of our intel.
PROF. MARRUS
She's not an actual member, but she
was one of the first to be granted
visions from the Powers that Be to
aid the champion of her time.
INT. CAVE - NEXT
Eve and her guards swing flashlights back and forth through
the dark cave, making sure their path is clear.
EVE
Did you change their ammo out?
SWAT LEADER
Yes, ma'am. Non-lethals as
requested
(beat)
If I may ask, why the elaborate
deception? Why not just let them
come to you?
EVE
Just shut up and do your job.
Sedate the girl again. She can't
come to in the middle of this.
The SWAT Leader scowls behind Eve's back.
PUSH IN on Eve's face.
PROF. MARRUS (V.O.)
The visions have always been too
much for humans to bear and Eve was
no different. She suffered an
aneurism and died very young.
(beat)
Almost 200 years ago now.
GABRIELLA (V.O.)
And I'm guessing the Partners
intervened.
PROF. MARRUS (V.O.)
Offered her immortality and a place
in Wolfram and Hart. She consented
to having her memories altered.
Reading about her gave me the idea
for Project Prodigy.
Eve and her guards walk out of frame.
EXT. CITY STREET - NEXT
INSIDE CONNOR'S CAR
Connor shifts gears, the motion being a little harder than it
needed to be.
CONNOR
(bitter)
I'm getting really damn sick about
batting clean up for my father.
What's any of this have to do with
Bridge?
INSIDE PROF. MARRUS'S CAR
Prof. Marrus clears her throat before continuing.
PROF. MARRUS
Just before Angel took control, Eve
fell for a former Wolfram and Hart
employee.
GABRIELLA (V.O.)
Lindsey McDonald. Little worm.
PROF. MARRUS
Yes, well he convinced her to turn
her back on the Partners and ally
with him to bring them down. That
failed spectacularly. Lindsey was
later murdered the night the Black
Thorn were annihilated.
CONNOR (V.O.)
(impatient)
Yeah, I read all this already. Dad
planned to have Lorne kill him. I'm
assuming that's what happened.
PIKE (V.O.)
Dude, that's just ruthless.
CONNOR (V.O.)
Shut up, Pike.
PROF. MARRUS
Eve came to me after all that
happened, blaming Angel and the
Higher Powers for her life falling
apart. With the former MIA, her
anger has been focused squarely on
retaliating against the latter.
(beat)
Connor, the cave I told you about
is actually a gateway to the realm
of the Higher Powers. I believe Eve
intends to siphon Bridget's energy
and use it to punch her way there
and destroy them.
INSIDE CONNOR'S CAR
A surprised Gabriella looks to Connor, then back at the
phone.
GABRIELLA
She's no match for them. That's
suicide!
PROF. MARRUS (V.O.)
I honestly don't think she cares
anymore.
CONNOR
Yeah, that's great. Could you
possibly be driving any slower? At
this rate, it'll be tomorrow before
we get to them.
He slams the flip shut and shifts into a higher gear, revving
the engine as high as it can go.
PUSH IN on Faas's face, stoically watching Connor's actions.
INT. PIT
The pit is only lit by a fire atop a short stone pillar in
the center of it. There are stone columns around the
perimeter.
Eve, Bridget, and the SWAT Leader all fall into frame
simultaneously.
Eve and Bridget land roughly and there's a loud POP on
impact. The SWAT Leader, by contrast, lands on both feet.
A set of unseen voices, of mixed genders, echo throughout the
pit. These are the CONDUITS.
CONDUITS (O.S.)
Are they worthy? They are not
worthy. No champions. Depart this
place.
Eve gets back to her feet and dusts herself off.
EVE
(looking up)
I don't think so, Jack. Not until I
get what I came for.
The SWAT Leader kneels down to Bridget, who is rolling on the
ground, moaning in pain and clutching her shoulder.
SWAT LEADER
Ma'am, I think her shoulder is
dislocated.
EVE
(ignoring him)
I took the deal from the Senior
Partners and that was my decision,
but you bastards did not need to
take Lindsey away from me!
CONDUITS (O.S.)
The Powers took nothing. Decisions
were its to make. As are all to
make. Leave here.
Eve and the SWAT Leader are flung into the walls of the pit
by an unseen force. The SWAT Leader swings his assault rifle
into his arms and looks for the source of the attack.
SWAT LEADER
What the hell was that?
EVE
That was the Conduits sealing their
fate.
She picks up her pouch, which was dropped when she landed,
and pulls a small green GEM out. It has sharpened points at
both ends and a circular disk cut into the center.
EVE
(calling out)
If you don't want to listen, then
I'll speak to your bosses myself.
CONDUITS (O.S.)
That is not possible. Shall not
come to pass. It shall fail.
Eve kneels over Bridget.
EVE
Have it your way.
Eve rolls a silently crying Bridget over to her stomach and
STABS the gem into her shoulder blade! Bridget gasps, but
doesn't move to free herself.
Surprisingly, no blood comes out. Instead the gem starts to
GLOW, bathing the whole pit in an ethereal green light.
Eve takes a deep breath and slams her palm through the other
end of the gem. She SCREAMS as the glow from the gem extends
to her body.
She throws her head back and green light pours out of every
orifice on her face as the SWAT Leader watches in horror.
Finally, the light stops. Eve, with her back to the camera,
pulls her hand free and yanks the gem out of Bridget's
shoulder, flicking it aside.
Then she turns around. All of her skin is a splotchy green
color and her eyes continue to faintly glow with green
energy.
She looks up again, presumably addressing the Conduits.
EVE
(darkly)
Now, what were you saying just now?
She grins as her hands begin to glow as well.
BLACK OUT.
END OF ACT THREE
ACT FOUR
EXT. CAVE - NIGHT
The SWAT team all raise and cock their guns as they see
Connor and Prof. Marrus's cars approaching.
Both cars turn to the side and stop just as the cyborg ninjas
all drop down in front of them.
Everyone piles out of the cars. Connor, with his bag hanging
off his shoulder, steps over to the Reillys.
CONNOR
Listen, when we rescue Bridge,
you're still her parents. Not
guardians. Not Wolfram and Hart
employees. Just Mom and Dad. Got
it?
Laurence and Colleen both nod. Pike and Gabriella walk up to
Connor as he starts digging through his bag.
GABRIELLA
What's in there?
Connor pulls out one of his wrist stakes and starts to attach
it to his arm.
CONNOR
Ran by the house to pick up a few
supplies.
PIKE
So what's the plan?
Faas comes over and hands Connor one of the two swords he's
carrying.
CONNOR
I was thinking we go right in the
front door.
FAAS
I concur.
PUSH IN on Prof. Marrus's face.
PROF. MARRUS (V.O.)
Eve. Eve, can you hear me?
